A well-designed dining room doesn’t need more. It needs a defining moment.
The most memorable spaces always have a focal point. A single element that leads the room, creating a sense of presence and giving the eye somewhere to land. It’s where you’re given permission to go bold. That “star” is what brings the wow factor allowing everything else to fall into place.
The dining room, in particular, always needs an achor. It’s where people gather, where meals turn into conversations, and celebrations are made merry. Designing these spaces is always meaningful to me because they hold so much life.
In our work across Tampa and surrounding areas, we often begin with one defining feature, what we call the “star,” and build the room around it. The result is a space that feels layered, intentional, and effortlessly complete.
The Star | CHANDELIER
Tampa Shores, FL
In this Tampa home, the recessed ceiling gave us a natural opportunity to go bold, so we did.
The chandelier wasn’t an afterthought; it was the starting point. With twenty-two crystal drops in gold leaf, each individually lit, the fixture brings both structure and movement to the room. During installation, we carefully adjusted the varying lengths by hand to achieve just the right balance.
Once the scale and presence of the fixture were established, everything else followed. A classic linear table, modern seating, and a restrained palette allow the chandelier to do what it’s meant to do: set the mood.
The result is a space that feels elevated in the evening, yet effortless in daylight. This adds drama without feeling overdone.
The Star | ART
Virginia Park, Tampa
In this Virginia Park home, rooted in Spanish Revival architecture with Mediterranean influence, the dining room’s focal point is deeply personal.
The centerpiece is an original work by a German artist, created using acrylic, oil pastels, and graphite. To highlight its presence, we gave the piece a floating effect and wrapped the mat in raw silk sourced from California.
That silk arrived after a significant delay due to the Los Angeles wildfires. I shared with the homeowners that their dining room now holds a connection between two places shaped by nature—something that will always be part of this homes story.
Surrounding the artwork, we kept the furnishings grounded and textural, allowing the piece to anchor the room in both meaning and design.
The Star | CHAIRS
Square Lake, Bartow
Not every dining space is a formal room. In this home, we were designing a dining nook for a young family where durability and ease were just as important as style.
Here, the chairs became the defining element. We selected a darker, wipeable upholstery that could handle everyday life while still feeling tailored and intentional. The ring detail on the back adds a subtle design moment.
The table was kept simple and durable, allowing the seating to bring both function and personality.
It’s a reminder that the “star” doesn’t have to be dramatic. Sometimes, it just needs to be right for how you live now.

Palma Ceia, Tampa
In this dining room, the focal point was custom-built storage designed in collaboration with two local artisans.
This piece was not only functional, but thoughtfully created to reflect both the architecture of the home and the way the clients live. The process itself was collaborative, with two local artisans contributing to the design. The end result was something truly one-of-a-kind.
The shelving adds structure, warmth, and substantial funciton to the space, while also serving as a backdrop for collected objects and personal details.

The Star | WALL COVERING
Riverview, Florida
In this Riverview dining room, the transformation came from enhancing what was already there.
We worked with the existing trim and paint, introducing a wall covering that brought depth, pattern, and visual interest to the space. Rather than competing with the architecture, we elevated it by creating a focal point that feels integrated and intentional.
The rest of the room was kept quiet and supportive, allowing the walls to carry the design.
